Few need it. Everybody wants it. I'm speaking of faster boot times, of course. Like many linux enthusiasts, I have spent hours tweaking my system for quicker boot times that over the course of a year have will probably save me a total of, oh, say, 20 minutes of waiting time.
I haven't gotten around to writing this section yet (Perhaps because I've wasted so much time trying to decrease bootup by another 2 seconds.) In the meantime, try googling for these terms together with the words "linux boot speed"
- profile
- profiling
- readahead
- preload
- prelink
- concurrency
